During this CFD project, the liquid hydrogen flow was computed in the pump stage of a space rocket engine turbopump. The objective of the project was the detailed flow analysis and performance assessment of the pump stage.
The whole stage of the pump was computed, including secondary flows, using 3D steady Navier-Stokes calculations. The high quality mesh included both structured and unstructured mesh technologies. Thermodynamic tables were used for the correct modeling of the fluid properties.
Automatic post-processing was performed in several cutting planes through the components, using dedicated scripts for averaging the main flow quantities. Flow analysis was performed, and the aerodynamic losses were highlighted using pressure and velocity contours.
