This was a study about the analysis of the water flow inside a device dedicated to the extraction of manganese nodules from deep sea. Several designs were computed and compared in order to optimize the suction performance of the device.
A high-quality unstructured mesh was generated with NUMECA's HEXPRESS™ software. The 3D flow solution was computed using FINE™/Open software.
The post-processing of the solution focused on the analysis of water flow uniformity on one hand and the suction effect generated inside the device on the other hand.
